These are open to ALL, not just our elected officers! Please let Pastor Cindy know if you’d like to attend!!!! NOTES FROM SERMON January 15, 2012 “The Blessings of Obedience” Scriptures: 1 Samuel 3:1-10; John 1:43-51; Psalm 129
INTRODUCTION:
· Obedience is something we are taught from a very early age · Being obedient is desired, but not always easy · Many obstacles get in our way of obeying such as not being sure of the voice that is speaking to us and being skeptical and critical of what we’re being asked to do · Our hesitancy to be obedient in life often transfers over to our obedience with God · Yet God, more than anyone, desires that we obey Him
WHAT SHOULD WE KNKOW ABOUT OBEDIENCE?
· Obedience is one of the marks of being a Christian
· If we want to call ourselves a disciple of Christ, we must obey Christ
· While obedience is hard, it is also a BLESSING!
THE HEART OF GOD’S WORD:
· To help us obey God, we must see the blessings of obedience
Ø An intimate relationship with a God who knows us better than we know ourselves (Psalm 139:1-6, 13-16)
Ø The promise and assurance of God’s presence with us always (Psalm 139:7-12)
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to Him. Psalm 128:1
LOOKING
AHEAD………
We have some exciting ministry events coming up in the next couple of months. Please take note of them, place them on your calendars and pray faithfully for each one!
5th Sunday Worship: On Sunday, January 29th, our adult choir will be leading us in a special service of worship through the singing of some of the old, favorite hymns. Plan on coming and helping us sing!!
Bible Bees Resume: On Sunday, February 5th, our Bible Bees will resume meeting right after worship. They will have lunch together, begin looking ahead to Easter, making some wonderful crafts, doing some really fun things, learning a lot and having a blast! Children ages 2-5th grade, come join them!!
Special Fundraiser: On Tuesday, February 7th, everyone is encouraged to eat at Smithfield BBQ in Mebane between 6-8 pm. They have agreed to allow us to supply 5 workers for that two hours to help deliver the food to the tables. They in turn will donate 20% of what they take in during those 2 hours to our church!!! This is a project your Finance Committee has taken on and would love to have some volunteers to help be servers. But more than that, please tell EVERYONE you know to eat there that night! It’s a great way to have good food, fellowship, share about our church and make some money to help us with our work and ministries!!
Delightful Concert: On Wednesday, February 15th, everyone is invited to attend a concert at our church, featuring the River Landing Presbyterian Home Band. Our Daily Bread group heard them before Christmas and LOVED them. As such we have invited them to come to our church for a spring concert. The band is made up of musicians ranging in age from 70-100 (with at least four in their 90’s!!). They will be playing homemade instruments and you simply will not believe your ears!! The concert will be at 11 am in our sanctuary. Following the concert we will be hosting them and all who attend with a soup, sandwich and dessert meal. If you would like to make a pot of soup, or sandwiches or desserts, please let Joyce Scott know! You will NOT want to miss this!!!! |
